How Does a Cookie Arrive? After visiting a web page, your computer can contain additional file under the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Cookies directory - cookie. It is a brief text file (*.txt) that contains a unique code. Each cookie can be accessed by the website that created it. This way users do not have to log in into the web-based systems (forum, member sites, etc.) each time they visit it. Visually, after you logged into forum to post a message yesterday a cookie have been created, and you did not have to log in again today because before reaching the content a cookie have been detected by a website on your hard drive and forum member rights have been assigned to you automatically (member start page have been started without entering username and password).

Cookies - It's Time to Concern About Privacy


Cookies are not the problem of security but they can infringe privacy. In set terms, if an ad from a different server (third-party) is integrated into website content (First-party), two different cookies is going to be created. Third-party cookies let to reveal the pages to visited - privacy trespassing occurs.

Turning off Undesirable Cookies


Want to avoid cookie attack and protect yourself from gathering private info - switch them off! Explanation about how to control cookies follows up. The optimal cookie security settings:
  • Tools->Internet options
  • Select Privacy and click Advanced...
  • Mark "checked" Override automatic cookie handling. Otherwise you will not be able to change cookie privacy settings below.
  • Below Third-party Cookies mark "Block" and click OK
  • Mark "checked" Always allow session cookies so that Internet Explorer can use temporary cookies, which after logging out will be deleted. Save settings by clicking OK
