Creating Safe Password

Password is being used as user's identity to authorize him. Using passwords you prove your identity, so that system can recognize you. But there are many cases that password have been stolen and have been used for monkey business. How can your password been stolen? It is possible to guess the password if login and password are closely related or even the same (e.g. login: admin, password: admin). In order don't forget password, people use the same login information to check their email boxes, to login to bank account etc. If third party reveals you e-mail box password he already knows you bank account login information as well. So it's important to use different passwords on different systems even if it is hard to remember each login information. There are programs created to guess login information (Password Cracker). The way programs find out passwords is "word list" or "automation" (brute force) attacks. "Word list" attack runs using all words from dictionary as long as it finds the right username and password. "Automated" attack tries all of the characters till the combination matches the password. Every password capture software can guess any password, it is only the matter of time. Some passwords can be guessed in one hour, some after one month, depends on how strong password you created!

In summary if you want to create a strong and secure password:

• do not include your name or username in the password
• do not use any of the previous passwords
• do not use digit or letter combinations that is easy to guess or remember
• don't use words from dictionary generating your passwords
• use digits, letters and special symbols so that your password looks like a trivial sequence (e.g. o@wd!_5y7)
• have different password for each system
• change your password after some period, that will reduce possibility to capture it. Some systems ask to change your password after some period (system administrators are able to define that period: it could be from one day to several months).
