Dubai International Airport

The Dubai International Airport is the main international airport that serves Dubai and is also the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic. Dubai Airports Company operates the airport. The Dubai International Airport is also the base for the airlines Emirates and flydubai. The Emirates hub is the largest in the Middle East. It is also the hub for flydubai, which is the low cost airline in Dubai. There are three terminals in the airport. Terminal 3 is the second largest building by floor space in the world, as well as being the largest airport terminal in the world. The airport is a big and important contributor to the economy in Dubai. The airport employees about 90,000 people and supports, indirectly, over 400,000 jobs.

 

Emirates

 

Emirates was launched in 1985 and operated with just two aircrafts. Now, Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East and the fourth largest airline in international passengers carried. It operates about 3,600 flights a week from Dubai International airport, flying to more than 140 cities in 81 countries.

 

They have a mixed fleet, which includes Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft. It is also the largest Airbus A380 operator. Emirates has about 96 Airbus A380 in service, with another 46 in order. They also have the largest Boeing 777 operator, they have about 130 panes in service.

Flydubai

 

Flydubai is government owned and a low cost airline. It flies out of Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport. The have fights operating to 95 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe. Their fleet of aircraft consists of Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8.

 

The airline offers economy class and business class accommodations. They have opened a business lounge at Dubai International Airport, which is in Terminal 2 and offers wi-fi and refreshments.

Emirates and flydubai Merging

 

Recently it was announced that Emirates and flydubai would be codesharing 29 routes, that are operated by flydubai. This expands Emirates operating network to across three continents. The first phase of partnership is commencing, which includes Emirates Skywards members earning Skywards miles and Skyward Tier Miles on codeshared flights.

 

The code sharing is an initial phase made by Emirates that in future phases will hope to see more city pair connections created. Other benefits for members of each airline’s loyalty and frequent flyer programs will be announced. These 29 destinations that are now codeshared include cities in: Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, India, Kuwait, Iran, Oman, among others.

 

There is an extensive list of airlines that fly to Dubai, these two airlines in particular have their hubs in Dubai and is the reason they were focused on. Many major airlines flying to and from many major destinations have stops in Dubai.
